Painting aircraft components in a controlled environment

Professional paint shop with humidity and temperature management for spray painting

The manufacturing of components for the aviation industry requires a very high level of quality. Surface technology in the aerospace sector has reached an exceptional level which requires clearly defined and stable working conditions throughout the entire paint application process. Controlling the temperature and the relative humidity at the same time is necessary to assure quality requirements and to reduce application and drying times.

Inquiry

The customer wanted to modernize the paint shop by replacing two traditional cabins with a modern aerospace paint system that also meets the requirements of the certified quality and environment management system. The answer to this request could only be a spray booth with humidity control, which can guarantee an application process in the relative humidity range between 40% and 60% in all ambient conditions. These are the recommended parameters for achieving best results from these special paints.

Solution

We have installed two Extra paint booths equipped with an isothermal humidification system installed on an intermediate level. This system is able to humidify the dry winter air to ensure the right working conditions for aerospace paints. The process is managed by a PLC system, with which the painting parameters are set and controlled via a single 10-inch touchscreen.

This solution has not only improved the conditions in which the paint can be worked, but also significantly reduced the drying time of the parts and significantly increased the company’s overall efficiency.
