High efficiency and high quality for painting in the rail industry
The plant is located within a large company that manufactures and operates high-speed trains. The company performs the painting operations in-house to have optimal control over the quality of the finish.

A complete plant was requested for the preparation and painting of large vehicles, such as rolling stock such as locomotives and wagons. For plants of this size, it is essential to adopt all possible solutions to increase efficiency, reduce operating costs and improve productivity.
Solution
We designed a plant consisting of 5 booths: two booths intended for vehicle preparation, one booth for automated sanding, and two booths for painting.
The painting plant consists of Space industrial spray booths with a modular layout, large enough to accommodate the rail vehicles to be painted and fully customisable according to production requirements.
The plant is equipped with high-efficiency industrial thermo-fan units, which ensure high-speed air flow and homogeneous temperature inside the paint booth, even at high temperatures for several hours.
The spray booths use the Select Air Speed ventilation system, which concentrates airflow in the area where painting is taking place, reducing energy consumption by 40%. Air is automatically conveyed to the area where the operator is standing with the paint lift, thanks to an intelligent electronic system connected to a touchscreen PLC.
The PLC controls all stages of the process, precisely managing the painting and paint drying parameters and containing energy consumption.
The sanding booth is equipped with automatic robots that perform the processing without operator intervention.
The installation is complemented by paint-lift sets for easily reach to every part to be painted, a Blowlight LED system for uniform lighting throughout the booth, and a set of motorised roll-up doors.
With the handover of the project, we organised an intensive training course to guide the operators in the optimal use of the painting system, in order to maximise its potential.
