A 4.0 plant to prepare, paint and dry carbon fiber components
The painting plant is located within high-tech company for the production of top-quality carbon fiber components used in sports cars, aerospace industry, eyewear, cycling, skiing and other high-performance sports products.
Prototypes are produced in this plant before their mass production.
Request
Painting on carbon fiber requires in-depth knowledge of the material and the painting and finishing process to ensure an excellent aesthetic and mechanical result with reduced lead times and controlled costs. Meeting these requirements requires a painting system that allows precise control of temperature and ventilation during each stage of processing, from preparation to painting.
Solution
With the customer, we designed a streamlined layout to make the painting process and the handling of objects to be painted smooth and flexible.
The painting plant we built consists of a central drying oven with double insulation to limit heat loss, two Extra painting booths, connected to the oven to simplify the movement of components to be painted, and two side mixing boxes, which serve the adjacent painting booths.
Management of the painting process is through three industrial PLCs, for optimal regulation of ventilation parameters and temperature inside the booths. The PLCs are connected to the Blowtherm Process Performance Center, the SCADA software for controlling and improving requirements and performance of industrial painting processes.
Ventilation is managed by eco-efficient thermal fan units combined with Green activated carbon scrubbers, a filtration system that reduces the emission of harmful substances into the environment
